This 9 ingredient pizza sauce is made entirely out of pantry-staple ingredients. If you have the time to let this simmer over the stove while your pizza dough rises, I highly recommend it.
- 28 ounces tomatoes crushed or diced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup onion finely diced
- 4 cloves garlic finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes more to taste
- 1 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Heat a medium saucepan over medium heat and heat olive oil. Add onion, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes. Heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Add tomatoes, sugar and salt. Stir to combine. Reduce heat to low and simmer. Allow sauce to simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Taste and adjusting seasonings. If sauce isn't thick enough, allow to simmer for 15-30 minutes longer until desired consistency is reached.
Use immediately or store in fridge for up to 1 week.
- This freezes great! I suggest freezing in individual portions in a vacuum seal bag.
- Freeze up to 3 months.
