This 9 ingredient pizza sauce is made entirely out of pantry-staple ingredients. If you have the time to let this simmer over the stove while your pizza dough rises, I highly recommend it.

  • 28 ounces tomatoes crushed or diced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup onion finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes more to taste
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt


  • Heat a medium saucepan over medium heat and heat olive oil. Add onion, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes. Heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  • Add tomatoes, sugar and salt. Stir to combine. Reduce heat to low and simmer. Allow sauce to simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Taste and adjusting seasonings. If sauce isn't thick enough, allow to simmer for 15-30 minutes longer until desired consistency is reached.
  • Use immediately or store in fridge for up to 1 week.


  • This freezes great! I suggest freezing in individual portions in a vacuum seal bag.
  • Freeze up to 3 months.
